Google reader shows more like this while subscribing to new feeds

Google reader shows a similar feature that we already discussed in the last post. Whenever you are subscribing to new Rss feed subscription Google reader suggests a list of feeds that are similar to the one you are subscribing. When I tried to subscribe to a CNET Rss feed, Google reader suggest like PCWorld latest technology news and Techdirt are the more similar feeds.

And here is what Google reader suggests when I am trying to subscribe to TED’s Video Rss feeds.

Overall these kind of feature where good to find more similar blogs to your interest.

Google shows alternative suggestions in sidebar

Google starts to show some alternative results in the sidebar for a particular search. Search for lifehacker returns some alternative suggestions to lifehacker like Engadget, Gizmodo, Slashdot etc., in the sidebar ( Highlighted in red box).

Below are the some interesting searches. A search for apple yields.. competitors like dell, Sony and more interesting is it also shows some suggestion like banana, blueberry etc.,and a search for Google returns

I find that one use for this feature could be you can find some alternate solution to a question. For example if you are looking for a alternative solution to mediamonkey (a media organizing software ) just Google it.

For now I can able to see this feature only when I logged in to my Google account. Any body already seen and uses this feature ?

Sync bookmarks across computer in Chrome

Developer version of Google chrome (4.0.220.1)added a new feature to Sync your bookmarks across computer with your Google account. Below is the screenshot.

And all your bookmarks are synced across the computers and the bookmarked data is available in Google docs and you cannot modify the bookmarks using docs its a read only as of now.

Google’s Spell checker in the cloud

Google chrome is enabled with a spell checker option. This spell checker works like any other spell checker ( for browser) out there. Google should have a option that enables to have the spell checker in the cloud linked with the Google account. Below is the view of Google homepage in its 11th year in Google chrome browser.

In which my name ” Ganesh” is suggested as a mistake and i have to add my name to the dictionary so that it displays my name as a correct one. But when i enter my name in my office system it still shows that the name ” GANESH” is a wrong one. If Google has the spell checker in cloud it should reflect in my office system also.

Google should use Google mail to link the Spell checker changes and whenever we logged in Google chrome with that Google account the change will sync with the chrome. I expect Google to follow its philosophy of moving everything into the cloud not only the bookmarks. Hope to see these feature soon…

Google celebrates its 11th birthday

Google celebrates its 11th birthday with a new Google doodle. Go to Wikipedia to know the history of Google.

And after 11 years Google has proved that its very difficult to live without Google (at least for me). What do you thing Guys ?

Improved Google web history removal

Google has recently improved their search box size for better usability. With these improvements there is one more i could see is the option to remove the web history for a specific search term from the search suggestion box itself. This helps to remove only the unwanted search term not the entire web history.

Click the remove button to the right of the search suggestion that you want to remove from the web history.

I didn’t saw this remove button before this updates. Is this because of the recent updates or its already there.

Any comments ?

Now import Google bookmarks in Chrome

In the latest developer version (4.0.206.1) of Google chrome we can able to import Google bookmarks directly from Google toolbar. I guess this feature will be added to the next version of stable build. To import the Google bookmarks go to Google chrome options and under personal stuff click import data.

In the import bookmarks and settings window select Google toolbar and click import.

Remember you must logged in to your Google account before importing the bookmarks.

Imported bookmarks are stored as Imported from Google toolbar. I have imported my Google bookmarks and it works fine. Remember its in Google chrome developer version if you are concerned over this wait until the feature is added to the Stable version. And still its not enabled to sync the bookmarks between Google chrome and Google toolbar.

Use Google toolbar as an instant calculator

Here we already discussed about instacalc – an online instant answer calculator. You can also do a similar type of calculation in search box in Google toolbar. Just start typing the math it will show the answer for the math instead of suggestion.

This works only in search box in Google toolbar not in Google homepage. You can use Google toolbar as an instant calculator. If you want more calculation power then you should surely checkout instacalc. In below screenshot i have started typing some basic math. Instead of suggestions Google toolbar shows the result for that math. Nice and clean.
